Božo Vidačković
December 10, 1934 ~ October 20, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years OldBožo Vidačković, 82, of Milford, CT, beloved husband of 57 years to Anka Vidačković, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2017 after a brief battle with brain cancer. Born on December 10, 1934 in Turija, Konjic in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he was the son of the late Vidak and Mara Vidačković (Bebek).
Božo had a passion for life and family. As a young father and husband, he traveled for work tirelessly, for months at a time, treading new paths where no man had set foot before, to provide for his wife and two children. He surveyed every inch of former Yugoslavia and his travels even took him as far as Libya.
Little did he know that the life he worked so hard to build would suddenly shatter with the start of war in 1991. He survived for four years without power, water and under constant threat of grenades and sniper fire. Finally, in August of 1995, the desire to be with their children and grandchildren in the United States, gave him and Anka the strength to leave the besieged city with nothing but a suitcase of memories to their name.
Božo spent the rest of his years in a strange land, but loving the time he spent with his family, especially his four grandchildren. He was an extraordinary grandfather, a candy dealer, cheerleader, swimming coach, homework tutor who spoke no English, but made sure the grandkids did their English homework properly by pouring over dictionaries with them for hours. He spoiled them in the best ways possible and has left a permanent mark on each of their hearts.
When taking a short break from his grandkids, Božo kept himself busy by helping his children with the “old world manly” tasks of wood chopping, lawn mowing, wine making, crooked shelf building and fixing anything and everything that needed (or sometimes didn’t need) to be fixed. He loved his power tools and didn’t need much of an excuse to use them. He enjoyed maps of every kind, which developed from his 37-year career in land surveying. He continued his career by surveying back yards and the woods of Milford and Wallingford. He was an avid soccer fan, ever faithful to his team Željezničar. He was a jolly man who listened to Mariachi music and loved to dance. His laughter and his love will forever be missed!
Božo is survived by his wife, Anka Vidačković; his children, Marina (William) Škrbić-Oliver, and Željko (Sandra) Vidačković; and grandchildren, Iggy and Davor Škrbić-Oliver, and Marko and Luka Vidačković.
