Derek K. Meyers, 33, of Lighthouse Point, FL, formerly of Milford, CT, passed away on February 4, 2018. Born on January 30, 1985 in New Haven, CT, he was the son of William and Laureen Keiser Meyers.

Derek graduated from Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, CT and went on to earn a B.S. Degree from Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL. He had previously worked in sales at the Stephen Gould Corporation. Derek was an avid outdoorsman with a particular fondness for hiking and rock climbing. Being raised on the water allowed him to be at home on the sea whether it was diving, fishing or the shear appreciation of nature. Derek lived life at only one speed which was “full throttle” and if you were in his company you were expected to do the same. His outgoing personality can be captured in one phrase, “He never met a stranger”, which made for some interesting conversations. Most recently, this was evident when he met his girlfriend Lauren McGee and the two quickly became inseparable.

In addition to his parents, Derek is survived by his two aunts and their spouses, Jill and Howard Goldfarb and Dana and Rick Trenkle; as well as several cousins and his beloved rescue cat, Burgee. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Eleanor Keiser and his paternal grandparents, Melvin and Dorothy Meyers.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at King’s Highway Cemetery, 271 Cherry St., Milford, CT. Friends and family may call on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Derek’s name to Cheshire Academy at www.cheshireacademy.org or to Wounded Warriors Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
