To The Family COACH ,
I SAY COACH because it is the way I know him ., I know him not any other way . Coach gave my life some direction which would have been more chaotic with out him in it . I knew COACH in Milford high as well as Foran high 73,76 . Learning of his passing has brought me to tears An I am one that does not show emotion no not at all . I often thought of him over the years he has never been forgotten and and God knows he never will be . ,
But let it be known death IS NOT the end of life it is just the beginning of yet another phase of the life we are in ., one we know little of . Therefore we are afraid when a dear one goes as we all will when our time comes . Death is just a rebirth to the next step into Gods plan for each of us . I am sure you all hurt so very much and I pray for each of his family members and all that knew him . GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Dear family,
I feel a loss, a sadness that cannot compare to your loss, but please know the power of PIZZAZ that your father, grandfather, husband had on my life! I was a young girl when he hired me to work at Camp Happiness...and he shaped my life as a special educator from those early days...reminding me that teaching with PIZZAZ was the best way to inspire others to their daily best! I am forever changed by those words, and they lead my career now...daily...and as I mentor others.
To know true happiness in a profession is a gift...to share it with others, a sign of greatness! Mr. Civitello, you shared your greatness and you made a difference in my live and thusly in the lives of so many others.
I am left with this message on my heart:
Live with PIZZAZ! Inspire others with PIZZAZ!

With love, with thanks, with my prayers, MaryAnn Abbazia Joseph

I was very saddened to learn of Don's passing. He was such a dedicated and hard-working educator, kind and always so encouraging, and I was very blessed to have worked alongside of him for all of my years teaching in Milford. His life was one of giving back, and he left this world a better place because of his efforts and service to others. Lorraine and family, please accept my sympathy for your precious loss.

I was shocked and saddened by Don's passing. A true "gentle" man loved by all of us who had the pleasure to work with him, and be guided by him. I will never forget him as he was a large part of my professional life.
Lorraine, my friend, my heart breaks for you and your family as I know he will be sorely missed. I send you my love and prayers. May you all find peace in the knowledge that he went directly to God's arms where he belongs.

Years of Memories since 1987 have flooded, as I recall transitions as well as frequent roller coaster rides required to work on behalf of deserving students who needed more. And while time, circumstance, position & locations changed, your heart appeared loyal to your beginnings as a Special Ed Teacher, which sustained your effort to connect with the true soul of each student, despite the odds. Within our work, those efforts were appreciated. Sincere Sympathy to Your Family & All Lives that You Have Touched. Rest In Peace. Darlene Chulak

Don you are unforgettable. Our time together was on those first Foran HS football teams. You were the undeniable ringleader of a truly great group of coaches, support staff and players. Those few years were too brief, wonderful and ones I will never forget. It was by far the best team of any kind I have ever been associated with. Coach, thank you very much. My deepest condolences to your family and close friends.

Don was a blessed soul that touched everyone he met. He was a person that came into our life and changed it forever. He always had a kind thing to say about everyone and was a person who was always there to help, he loved people and was a wonderful friend. He was a person who always put others before himself. We know that Don is now at peace. He will remain forever in the hearts and minds of all of us that knew and loved him.
Rest in peace, we love you Don!

Lorraine, besides the ministry you two engaged in these last few years, his ministry to children throughout his life can not be taken for granted. Although I may be a Catholic School Educator, it was obvious to me that education was, for him and of course you, a true ministry, even if in the public domain. He always thought of children first, making sure the children at the catholic schools were treated fairly. I am sure he is now enjoying the fruits of his labor. I shall never forget him. Love, Frank Lacerenza and everyone at St. Mary school

Lorraine and family: I was saddened to read about your loss. For 39 years I was a teacher in Milford, mostly in kindergarten. While I never worked specifically with Don, he would often stop in my room when he was in my school. He would talk with me awhile and then just look around the room for a few minutes. So curious as to why he always did the same thing, I asked him one day. He said that my "Rainbow Room" was such a happy, nurturing place that it made him feel good and was a bright spot to his day. I will always remember his friendly smile. I hope your memories and love if family will help you get through this difficult time. 🕊🌈

Quite simply a great man. My mother (Sharon) had the privilege of working for Don for many years. I remember her telling me how fortunate she was to be lead by such a great leader with uncompromising values. Don was kind and caring towards my family. I can remember many trips to Yale for a football game and a hot dog. Raised in a family without a father it was a blessing to have such a strong moral compass to look to as an example.

As a nurse I have taken care of many patients but not one of them touched my heart as much as Donald did. Donald was a strong and independent man who thought the world of his family. He showed his love and strength with his courageous fight. I am blessed to have had the chance get to know him and his wonderful family. My prayers are with his loved ones during this time of grief.

Lorraine, we are so sorry for your loss. When I told Rich about Don's passing, he remarked "not Father Don" If you remember he used to call Don that because he was very religious, kind, didn't swear, and had the attributes of your favorite parish priest. I know you will miss him terrible. Our prayers go out to you.
