Gertrude Helen Fahy, 93, of Hamden, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 28, 2017. Born in New Haven on April 16, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William T. Friend and Gertrude C. Gehrke. Her family moved to Hamden in 1941 where she was a resident until recently. She graduated Hamden High in 1942 and then attended business school. She worked at the Knights of Columbus Headquarters before marrying “Her Dream Man” James T. Fahy of New Haven in 1947. In the 1970’s she was a ward secretary at the Hospital of St. Raphael. Her friends knew her as Gert or Gertie and she was active over the years in PTA, Cub Scouts, St. John the Baptist Church and in several church and senior groups in Hamden and New Haven.  She was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren.

Gertrude is survived by her son Stephen Fahy (Bonnie); grandchildren Timothy Homa (Stephanie), James Fahy, Thomas Homa (Brittany), William Fahy, Helen Homa, Albert Homa; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Gert was predeceased by her husband James Fahy, her daughter Kathleen Homa and sister Mary Williams.

A Mass to celebrate her life will be held at Saint Rita Church, 1620  Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT 06517 on Saturday, November 11th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.  Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org) organization.
