Harry J. Calandro “Uncle Harry”, age 89, of Milford, beloved husband of Pauline Sotere Calandro, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2017 at Milford Hospital Hospice unit after a brief illness. Harry was born in New Haven on December 3, 1927, son of the late Pasquale and Giovanna Camelia Calandro.

One of ten children, Harry grew up in Savin Rock. He was a WWII Navy veteran and a retired tire builder for the Armstrong Rubber Co. where he worked for 48 years. He was an avid New York Jets fan and also enjoyed UCONN Woman’s basketball. He loved his garden and telling jokes, but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family at home.

Harry is survived by his loving wife, Pauline, of 63 years; his daughter, Paula (Paul) DiNello of Northford; and his beloved nephew, Ernest (Jacqueline) Levesque of GA. He is also survived by his sister, Theresa DeMayo of Woodbridge; his nieces and nephews with whom he was raised: Joseph (Florence) Romei of MA, Vincent (Lois) Romei of Woodbridge, Teresa (Joseph) Cusano of Northford, Carmela (Paul) Lubenow of FL, Patricia GaNun of West Haven, and Michael Romei of NY, as well as many other loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Angelo, Alphonse, Albert, Dominic, and Edward Calandro and sisters, Josephine Romei, Nancy DelVecchio and Anna Biancur. Harry’s goodness and wonderful personality will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 9 a.m. at Saint Mary Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment with Military Honors will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave., West Haven, CT.
