Rose Mary Madelung, 84, of Milford, CT., beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on October 18, 2017 at Yale New Haven Hospital.  Born on September 15, 1933 in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Bartolo and Carmella Garaffa.   

Rose was married for almost 53 years to her loving husband William E. Madelung Sr, who passed away in 2008.  She was the dedicated mother of 4 boys and especially devoted to her daughter, Karen. 

While raising her family, Rose offered her time as a Cub Scouts den mother and member of the Ladies’ Guild at Christ the Redeemer Church.   She retired from the Knights of Columbus in New Haven where she had worked for many years as an executive secretary and was very active in her retirement years, dedicating herself to family, friends and volunteer work.   She generously gave her time to the Special Olympics and later, the Milford Senior Center. Rose enjoyed bowling, Broadway shows, and the occasional field trip to the casino with her daughter, Karen, She was an avid Yankee fan and on game-day life was centered on her team.  Anyone that was familiar with Rose, knew her to be of strong faith and character.

She was incredibly supportive of her family and friends and would leap to their aid in times of need. She never missed a birthday or occasion to send a hand written note of good cheer.

Rose is survived by her children, William E. (Kathy Gabrielle) Madelung Jr. of Nebraska, Karen A. Madelung, David G. Madelung, and Thomas P. (Cindi Sorrentino) Madelung, all of Connecticut, and Richard S. (Julie Nemitz) Madelung of Michigan; grandchildren, James, Owen, Samuel, Lucy, and Eliza Madelung; sister, Stella (Chet) Trzaski of Virginia; and many extended family and friends.

Friends and family may call from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Church, 325 Oronoque Rd., Milford. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford.
