Teresa A. King, of Orange, previously of Hamden and West Haven, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2017 at Maplewood Senior Living in Orange. Born on January 21, 1930, in New Haven, she was the loving daughter of the late Martin and Mary Cosgrove King. She is survived by her sister-in-law, DyAnn King of Ellington and many loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sisters and their husbands, Mary and Frederick (John) Burgh, Noreen and Walter Kacergis, Anne and John Cashman and Bernadette King; and her brothers and their wives, Christopher and Florenz King, Martin and Kathryn King, John and Carole King and Joseph King.

Despite being born with physical disabilities, Teresa graduated from Quinnipiac University and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Bridgeport. She was a much loved elementary school teacher in Southington, receiving cards and letters from former students and fellow teachers after retiring. Teresa was also a Girl Scout leader for many years in New Haven.

Teresa will be especially remembered by those who loved her for her independence, sense of humor, intelligence and inner strength which enabled her to pursue her dreams despite her physical limitations. More than anything, Teresa loved her brothers, sisters and family. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Maplewood Senior Living and VITAS Healthcare for the wonderful care and support they gave Teresa over the past month.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave., West Haven, CT. Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Teresa’s memory may be made to VITAS, 199 Park Road Ext., Middlebury, CT 06762 or Quinnipiac University, 275 Mount Carmel Ave, Hamden, CT 06518.
