Ann C Mills

Ann Collins Mills, 91, of Portland, CT, wife of the late James Mills, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2021. Ann was born on December 4, 1929 in Meriden, CT to the late Ernest and Agnes Collins.

Ann graduated from St. Joseph College and went on to obtain higher degrees from Western Connecticut State University and Fairfield University. She retired after many years of teaching English as a Second Language at Truman School in New Haven. Ann was a member of the St. Agnes Guild, St. Joseph Alumna, New Haven and West Haven Retired Teachers Associations and was on the Milford Council of Catholic Women.

Ann is the loving mother of Michael Schmidt and his wife Carol of Durham, CT, Joanne Schmidt of The Villages, FL, Nancy Higgins and her husband Thomas of Bethesda, MD and Alison Schaal and her husband Matthew of Bend, OR; stepmother to Jaye Ellen Mills of St. Mary’s, GA; grandmother to Michael Schmidt and his wife Stephanie and their daughters Logan and Lennon, Eric Schmidt and Nicholas and Andrew Schaal. In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas, Robert and David Collins; stepson, James Mills; and her former husband, Joseph Schmidt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 12 p.m. at St. Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave., Milford, CT. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford, CT. The family is being compassionately cared for by the Cody-White Funeral Home, Milford, CT.
