Tribute

Anthony J. Roberto, Jr., passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023 at Milford Hospital. Tony was the husband of 24 years to Nancy (Gelgauda) Roberto. Born in Hartford on May 2, 1944, he was the son of the late Genevieve (Palka) Roberto and Anthony J. Roberto, Sr.

Tony proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a plumber for 56 years and was an avid fan of the UConn Women’s Basketball, attending several Final Fours. But his greatest passion was being a softball umpire. For 50 years Tony umpired both slow and fast pitch softball. He was inducted into both Fast Pitch Hall of Fame and Collegiate Hall of Fame. Tony was also the CT Deputy Umpire-in-Chief for 25 years, the CT Umpire-in-Chief for 15 years, the CT Rules Interpreter for over 20 years, and an umpire for the 1997 Special Olympics World Games Softball. He met his beloved wife, Nancy, on a softball diamond where he had been umpiring behind home plate while she was the catcher.

In addition to his wife, Tony leaves behind his brother, James (Donna) Roberto of Andover; his cherished children, Michael (Lisa), Kevin, and Douglas (Nancy) Roberto, Trish (Justin) Wootton, and stepson, Christopher (Shelly) Chimini; five beloved grandchildren; two adoring great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
