Tribute

Cameron David Martin, known to those close to him as Cam, a cherished member of the Stratford community, beloved father of Sailor Martin, and devoted husband of Cristine Jaipaul, passed away peacefully in his Lordship, CT home on March 29, 2024. Born June 22, 1973 in Bridgeport, CT, he is the son of the late David and Sally Martin and lived the majority of his life in Lordship, CT,  the town he held close to his heart.

Cam was a proud graduate of Fairfield Prep (‘91) and Vanderbilt University (‘95), where he majored in English and spent a semester abroad at the London School of Economics where he traveled through the United Kingdom making many friends and fond memories.  With a sharp wit and a gift for words, Cam enjoyed a distinguished career as a professional writer and editor. He was a former columnist for NBC New York and contributed to esteemed publications such as ESPN, The New York Times, Yahoo! Sports, Newsweek, The Atlantic, The Christian Science Monitor and Barnes & Noble Review.  He also served as a Senior Editor for JPMorgan Chase's worldwide newsletters, and held positions at Hearst Newspapers as the Norwalk Citizen’s Sports Editor, Stamford Advocate as a Managing Editor, the Greenwich Time Newspaper as a writer, columnist, and book reviewer, and most recently as the Digital Content Editor for the Town of Greenwich website.

Cam was not only a prolific writer but also a dedicated lover of literature. He was rarely seen without a book in hand, always engrossed in his latest novel. Beyond his literary pursuits, Cameron was an ardent sports fan, boasting a lifelong love of the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Vanderbilt Commodores. He also found solace in collecting sea glass along the beaches in Lordship, spending time with friends and family playing a game of cornhole, bocce, wiffle ball, or round of golf. He was also an avid sports, history, pop culture and political trivia enthusiast. Cam also cherished his travels, particularly the unforgettable moment when he proposed to his wife, Cristine, on the Ha’penny Bridge in Dublin, Ireland, and most recently driving California’s pacific coast through Big Sur.

He is survived by his wife, Cristine Jaipaul of Lordship, CT, daughter, Sailor Martin,  his three sisters, Julie Doherty and Maryellen Warner of Millersville, MD, and Sara Martin of Annapolis, MD, as well as his nephews, Conor Doherty of Wilmington, NC and Spencer Warner of Shelton, CT, and his niece, Maeve Doherty of Denver, CO. Additionally, he is remembered by his four brothers-in-law, Max, Andrew, Danny, and Ken Jaipaul, along with their families, and a multitude of dear friends who were like family to him. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Dr. Robert J. Doherty.
