Carl Peter Peterson, Jr.

Carl P. Peterson Jr., age 91, longtime resident of Milford, CT, passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2018.  Born December 17, 1926 in Nyack, NY, he was the son of the late Carl P. Peterson, Sr. and the late Helfrid (Svard) Peterson of Fairfield, CT.

Carl grew up in Fairfield and graduated in 1945 from Roger Ludlowe High School. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army serving in both WWII and Korea.  While in Germany he became part of a group of soldiers chosen as Honor Guard for General Lucius Clay.  He returned to Fairfield and married (later divorced) Helen Peterson with whom he had his two children.  He then married the late Linnea (Engstrom) Peterson. Carl was a hard-working man. He worked as an Oil Burner Serviceman for Santa Fuel and other oil companies along the way, retiring at 70 yrs. old from Hoffman Fuel.

He had a love of gardening which he learned from working with his father in the family nursery business growing up.  He also enjoyed feeding and watching birds and made beautiful birdhouses (many of which are still here and there in Milford). He was quite proud of being featured in the Newspaper for his birdhouse designs. Other than English, he spoke Swedish (learned from his parents) and German and some French (learned overseas).  He could play a violin, guitar, piano and drums.  Carl loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, All in the Family and MASH and old-time movies; African Queen and Casablanca were two of his many favorites.  Family was most important to him and he absolutely enjoyed the holidays and birthdays when everyone got together to celebrate. He had quite the personality and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Carl leaves behind his son, Raymond Peterson of St. Louis, MO; his daughter, Karen (Peterson) Dalby and her husband James of Milford, CT; and a brother, George Donald Peterson of Fairfield, CT.  He also leaves behind his two step-children, Douglas Kovacs and Semantha Norton of Milford, CT and Jean Kovacs of Milford, CT.  He has three grandchildren, twins Kaitlyn Dalby and James Dalby, Jr. of Milford, CT and Clayton Peterson of Illinois.  In addition, he has two step-grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher Kovacs of Milford, CT.

Friends and family may call Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service commencing at 5:30 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT.
