Carl A. Villani, 92.8 years young, of Milford passed away peacefully on February 25, 2018. Born on June 10, 1925 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Harry and Louise Villani.

Carl was a lifelong bachelor and Godfather to many. He joined the U.S. Army immediately after graduating from Milford High School in 1943 and fought for our country in World War II, serving in the First Calvary Division in the Pacific Theatre. After the war he spent his time helping to run the family business before attending Stone College for accounting. After graduating from Stone College, he worked for the U.S. Treasury in Washington, D.C. His favorite hobbies included frugally betting the horses, relaxing at Gulf Beach and soaking in the sun between his daily walks. He enjoyed his sports, and in his youth was a trophy winner on several sports teams, including basketball, baseball, softball and bowling. Carl was also a New York Giants baseball fan most of his life (yes you read that right!). The 1980’s introduced him to his favorite UConn women’s basketball team and he followed them faithfully…even on his last night. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was known for his smiling face greeting many customers at the downtown Milford post office window. His quick wit and dry humor will be missed as will his stories that were yet to be told.

Carl is survived by his siblings, Marion Myrick and Louise (Dennis) Rau; his nieces and nephews, Yvonne (Mike) Nevens, Lisa Rockelli, Angela (Darrin) Booth, Dina (Scott) Shulman, Dennis Jr. (Christina) Rau, and Bonnie (Craig) George; his great nieces and nephews, Andy and Alex Rockelli, Natalie and Adam Booth, Isabela Rau, Daniel, Will, Tyler, and Mason Shulman, and Caroline and Travis George. Carl was predeceased by his sister, Annie (Al) Faiella; his infant brother, Harry Villani; his niece, Maria Rau; and his brother-in-law, Donald Myrick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 5, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment with Military Honors will take place at a later date. Friends and family may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor at www.littlesistersofthepoor.org/donate or to your own favorite charity.
