Charles J. Trumpower, AKA Author Elliott Storm, age 71, of Milford, beloved husband of Deborah Cole Trumpower, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving wife by his side. He fought a long courageous battle with leukemia.
Charles was born on November 10, 1946 to the late Edward and Marie (Russo) Trumpower in Pittsburg, California. He graduated from the Marine Corps Base in Quantico and was a combat Vietnam Veteran with the 1st Marine Division in 1969. He was awarded several purple hearts along with the prestigious combat action ribbon.
Charles was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and also a member of Military Order of the Purple Heart. He served for a time as the Judge Advocate for the 2nd District-Connecticut. He was a past member of the Milford Rotary, was formerly a Vista Volunteer (a division of the Peace Corps) and a Mediator with ESGR (Employment Support for the Guard and Reserve).
Years ago, Charles was a lobbyist for veterans in Washington, DC, alongside John McCain. He was also for a short time Secret Service under the Reagan Administration. He was a strong advocate, along with Senator Blumenthal, for establishing Wi-Fi service in Connecticut’s VA Hospital for all patients.
Charles was awarded Veteran Advocate of the Year by the Small Business Administration. He received the American Metal of Freedom and Warriors Metal of Valor and the Silver Star Banner. He was a past member of the VFW 7788 in Devon, American Legion Post 196 in Milford and American Legion Post 10 in Seymour. He was currently a member of American Legion Post 126 in Jensen Beach, FL.
Charles was AKA Elliott Storm. He was the author of “These Scars are Sacred”. The effects of PTSD. He and his wife toured the United States for book signings and lectures. Before becoming an author, he practiced law in Oregon.
In addition to his wife, Deborah, Charles is survived by his loving sons, Christian and Fr. Constantine (Adrienne) Trumpower; four handsome grandsons, Casey, Peter, Isaac and Theodore Trumpower, all of CA; his stepdaughter, Courtney Watson, whom he loved dearly, as well as his soon to be son-in-law, Raymond Swift III. Charles was so looking forward to their wedding and will be there in spirit. Also surviving is his former wife, Cynthia Trumpower of Oregon; his former mother-in-law, Vida Reiss of California, whom he thought the world of; many cousins on the west coast and many nieces and nephews in the Carolinas. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Anthony Trumpower and his wife Gloria, whom he considered his sister; and his stepson, Shawn Watson. Charles touched the lives of so many people and he will truly be missed by everyone who had the honor and privilege of knowing him; may he rest in peace.
Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, April 20, 2018 (TOMORROW) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. A Prayer Service will commence at 7 p.m. followed by Military Honors. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
