Tribute

Donna Louise Noble, 76, of Milford, beloved wife of Paul E. Noble, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 5, 2018.

Donna was born in her grandmother’s home in Corning, Ohio, on May 2, 1942. She moved as a young girl to Connecticut when her father, John Harvey, started work at Sikorsky Aircraft. Her mother, Millie Roberts, died unexpectedly in 1952, thrusting Donna into a motherly role caring for her 5-year-old brother John and infant sister Juanita, a duty that she embraced with kindness and patience. Once her father remarried, Donna eventually became the eldest of eight siblings.

She graduated from Milford High School in 1960 and was working in Gino’s beauty salon when, while rollerskating with friends in Lordship, she met Paul at the rink. They married in 1962, had two daughters, and moved in 1969 into their current Milford home on Rita Lane.

Donna worked in the 1980s at Hubbell Inc. and, in recent years, as a receptionist at H&R Block. Her greatest labor of love, in common cause with Paul, was to her faith and the life of Cornerstone Christian Center. She served for more than two decades as Cornerstone’s fastidious church secretary, recording Sunday attendance with a clipboard and posting personal notes to absentees. Every congregation member received a card from Donna on their birthdays, too. She was, for many faithful, a cornerstone of Cornerstone.

Her deep faith granted Donna undeniable power to cope during her two-year battle with cancer, beating pessimistic forecasts and traveling to Ireland deep into her illness. Even in her final weeks she masked her pain with a rare stoicism that reflected her ever-present focus on seeing Heaven.

Donna is survived by her husband Paul; daughters Janis (Kevin Gonsalves) Rockett of Fairhaven, MA and Dawn (Shawn Pogatchnik) Noble of Dublin, Ireland; grandsons Matthew Rockett and Harrison Noble; granddaughter Alexandra Berntson; stepmother Dorothy Harvey of Milton, PA; sisters Juanita (Louis) Belsito of Winsted and Sharon (Robert) Phelan of Milton, PA; and brothers John R. Harvey of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Lewis (Sherri) Harvey of Jefferson City, TN, David (Cheryl) Harvey of Meriden, Duane (Vita) Harvey of Jacksonville, FL, and Norman (Nita) Harvey of Claxton, GA; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, 22nd June at 6.00 pm at the Cornerstone Christian Center on Wheelers Farm Road, with visitation at 5.00 pm and a gathering in the fellowship hall following the service. The family is being compassionately cared for by the staff at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute: The Jimmy Fund at https://www.kintera.org.
