Douglas James Kovacs

October 5, 1963 ~ July 3, 2021 (age 57) 57 Years Old

Tribute

Douglas James Kovacs, born October 5, 1963 returned to pure loving energy on Saturday, July 3, 2021.

Douglas is survived by his former wife and best friend, Jean; their two sons, Andrew Justin (Christina) and Christopher Allen-Michael (Kaylah). He leaves his sister, Semantha Norton of Milford and many cousins and other family members as well as his best friend, James Stevens.

He was predeceased by his mother, Linnea Engstrom Peterson; his father, James Charles Kovacs; his step-father, Carl Peterson; maternal grandparents, Alice and Karl Engstrom; and paternal grandmother, Katherine Rome.

When asked to define success, he would say his best attributes were his children who he considered to be his greatest work of art. He also was an inspirational floral designer, specializing in wedding design and event planning. He had a dream of opening a candy store or doing something that people would find happiness in. Later in his life, he found serenity in gardening. He truly loved cooking for family and friends and sharing the time together. When he came out to family in his mid-thirties, he found a new sense of appreciation for life. He finally was free to live as he’d always wanted; however, he would say, “The grass isn’t greener on the other side. It’s Astro-turf ‘cause we know how to decorate!” He was full of life, sometimes sarcastic, temperamental, but always appreciative and wanting to give back to those who needed a helping hand. His passion and love for life were slightly held back by his back injury, but he never let it stop him. With a smile, he’d keep moving forward. A lover of inspirational quotes, he would always try to pass on a smile or a hug to anyone who seemed to need one. His presence will be truly missed, but his legacy will forever live on through all he touched!

A Celebration of his life will be held on a later date.  He has requested, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in his honor to:  Pet Rescues, Animal Shelters, Soup Kitchens or Food Pantries.
