Tribute

Edward Charles LaPlante, 71, of Milford, beloved husband of Carol Head LaPlante, passed into eternal rest on July 6, 2021. Born on August 6, 1949, he was the son of the late Marjorie LaPlante and the late Charles LaPlant. Ed graduated from Jonathan Law High School in 1968, and enlisted in the United States Navy where he earned certification from the Navy’s Fire Fighters’ School, and served proudly aboard the USS Nipmuc. Ed received the National Defense Service Medal, and was unabashedly patriotic.

It was one of the happiest days of Ed’s life when he donned the uniform of firefighter for the City of Milford, on December 1, 1975. Ed treasured his profession, and rose to the rank of Captain. He served as IAFF Local 944 President, and was an EMT, and active participant in the MFD Water Rescue Team and Ice Rescue Team. Ed’s late father-in-law, Battalion Chief Raymond Head, was his mentor and Brother Fire Fighter.

One could not think of Ed without knowing how much the sea had always called him – even as a youngster when he was intrigued by Charles Island. His love of smelling the salt air, fishing, and marveling at the serenity of a glassy sea filled him with joy, and brought him closer to his God.

Along with his devoted wife, Ed leaves behind his precious children, Jaclyn Lee, and her fiancée, Ralphie Rivera, and Brian Raymond. Ed cherished his daughter and son, and his boundless love for them was a constant source of steadfast devotion. His children witnessed each day what it meant to be a decent and compassionate man. Ed’s gentleness was obvious throughout his life as he cared for his cherished Labs: Shanna, Lana, Riley, Liberty, and Justice as well as Sean, his much-loved Irish Setter.

Ed is survived by his sister, Ellen Griffin, and by his sisters-in-law Laurie Glenn, and her husband, George; and Renee Head. He is survived by his brother, Clinton LaPlant, and by several nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his beloved brother, David LaPlante.

Ed and Carol would have been together for 53 years in October. He was 19 years old, and Carol was 15 years old. Words cannot capture what they meant to each other. He will forever be her “Eddie, My Love,” and she will forever be his “Carol Ann”.
