Felix Cancel, Sr., 74, of West Haven, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2021. Married 51 years to the love of his life Juanita (Vazquez) Cancel. Beloved father to Felix Cancel, Jr., Jeannette Baez, and Erik (Beth) Cancel. Grandpa to his loving grandchildren, Christine, Corie and Emma Cancel, Alec and Ryan Baez, and Francesca (Frankie), Luka and Brooklyn (Charlie). Born on May 28, 1946 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico he was the son of the late Felipe Cancel and Rosa Rivera. Predeceased by his brother, Jose Cancel, and his springer spaniel, Lucky. He is survived by his brothers Antonio (Deborah) Cancel and Hector Cancel; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He will be missed by all that had the pleasure to meet him.
Felix proudly served his country in the United States Army. Decorated Purple Heart and US Army Commendation Medal recipient of the Vietnam War (1966-1968). He enjoyed routing for the New York Yankees, but he was happiest spending time with his family. He especially found pleasure in shopping every Sunday with his wife, Juanita. Felix was a humble man, so hard-working who touched so many lives. He had a quick wit, humor, love and loyalty. He loved his country, culture, US Army and especially his family and friends. When things were at their worse, Felix showed true honor, integrity, character and code to something bigger than himself and never gave up without a fight. He will forever be a HERO to all who knew him.
