Florence Marie Gordon

Florence Marie Gordon, 72, of Milford, Connecticut, beloved wife of 49 years of John Gordon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 1, 2021.  Born on April 19, 1949 in Astoria, New York, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Helen Desmond.

Florence, often called Flo by family and friends, worked as a secretary at Avon in New York City before leaving the workforce to raise her children. When she returned to the workforce, she worked for Bridgeport Steel in Milford, Connecticut in sales and support until her retirement. Florence’s favorite thing to do was spend time with all of her family, and she especially delighted in her three grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them in Tucson, and she loved having a second home there to see them and her daughter and son-in-law more.

Florence is most remembered for her warm personality and ready smile. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and always made friends and family feel welcomed and at home. She loved movies and quoted lines from them frequently. She was an avid Mets fan and continued watching and cheering them on from home until her last weeks. She also enjoyed going to the casinos in both Tucson and Connecticut as well as playing games, particularly pinochle, Rummikub, and backgammon.

In addition to her devoted husband John, Florence is survived by daughter Wendy Gordon Weeks and her husband Brad Weeks of Tucson, Arizona; daughter Summer Rose Gordon of Milford, Connecticut; grandchildren Hannah, Amelia and Julian; sisters Dolores Sypowicz and Dorothy Desmond; brother Bob Desmond; and eight nieces and nephews Jessica, Kevin, Gabriella, Robert, Tom, Amanda, Steve, and Samantha. Florence was predeceased by her brother Jimmy Desmond.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave., Milford, CT (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Burial will follow at Kings Highway Cemetery, 271 Cherry St., Milford, CT.
