Florence R. Carroll, 88, of Milford, CT, loving wife of 66 years to the late Peter J. Carroll, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022. Florence was born on Oct. 16, 1933, in New Haven. She was the daughter of William and Catherine Enright Reynolds, both immigrants from Ireland. Florence grew up with her five siblings in New Haven before moving to Hawley Avenue in Milford, graduating from Milford High School in 1951. She graduated from New Haven State Teachers College and later returned to complete her master’s degree while teaching full time. Florence was a long time elementary school teacher in the Milford public school system, mostly at John F. Kennedy School. Throughout her career, Florence was a strong advocate for improved teachers’ salaries, working conditions and better educational offerings for students. Before her illness, she loved traveling and vacationing in Bradenton, FL and playing golf and bridge with her cherished close friends.
Florence is survived by her children, Christopher (Debby) Carroll, Shawn Carroll (Donna Cartwright),Colleen Carroll Noyes, all of Milford, and Stacie (Michael) DiNello of Deep River, CT; grandchildren Kerrie Payne, Katie Garbati, Eleanor Noyes, all of Milford, Kelly Gilchrist of Cheshire, CT, Brianna David of Palermo, ME, Peter DiNello of Wallingford, CT, Fiona Noyes of Freeport, ME, and William Carroll of Frederick, MD, and great-grandchildren David, Kylee, Brandon, Dylan, Finley, Kaelan, Charlie, Kyla, Eliza and Emerson. Florence is also survived by her brother, John Reynolds, and his wife, Ethel, and many nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her sisters Catherine Stewart and Mary Condon, her brothers William and James Reynolds and a grandchild, Kylene Carroll.
Friends and family are invited to call from 9am to 11am on Monday, September 26, 2022 at the Cody-White Funeral Home 107 Broad St. Milford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish) 70 Gulf St. Milford, CT. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery Buckingham Ave. Milford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Literacy Volunteers of Southern Connecticut.
