Gustave “Gus” William Drenkhahn, age 78 of East Haddam, formerly of Milford, beloved husband of Nancy Drenkhahn, passed away peacefully at this home surrounded by his family on June 24, 2020. Born on November 24, 1941 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Carl and Florence Ida Drenkhahn.
Gus worked for the City of Milford Public works for 26 years as a heavy equipment operator before retiring with Nancy to their log cabin in the woods. Gus had a passion for hunting and was a lifetime member of the New Haven Racoon Club in Durham. Gus always looked forward to his Wednesday lunches with his buddies at the club. Gus had a vibrant spirit and anyone who knows him knows that once you saw that twinkle in his eye and that contagious smile he was up to some sort of adventure. Gus will always be remembered for his charming character, generosity to everyone he met, and his love for his family above all.
Along with his wife of 49 years, Gus will be lovingly remembered by his children, Lori Drenkhahn (Tim Vernik) and Joe Drenkhahn; siblings, Florence Caruso, Carl Drenkhahn, and Alice Drenkhahn; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved granddogs, Niko and Maisy.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 N. Broad St., Milford, CT 06460. Social distancing and masks will be required. Due to gathering size limitations, only 25 people will be allowed inside at a time. Interment will be private.
