Hanna A. Samander

August 16, 1950 ~ March 2, 2023 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Tribute

Hanna Atallah Basil Samander of Milford, CT, passed away peacefully in his home on March 2, 2023, at the age of 72, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

He was born on August 16, 1950, in Birzeit, Palestine. He was the eldest son of the late Atallah and Mufideh Samander.

In 1974, he arrived in the United States with his wife, Samia (née Kaoud), where he soon called Milford his home. A dedicated family man, he worked hard to support his immediate and extended family, provide his four children with an education and raised them with the same Christian, cultural and family values that were instilled in him while growing up in Palestine.  All who knew him, recognized his love and loyalty to his family, and whatever you asked of him, he would find a way to deliver.

Hanna was gregarious, enjoyed hosting family and friends, was a consummate storyteller and photography enthusiast. When he wasn’t working, he loved to travel with his family, always eager to pile his wife, kids, in-laws, siblings, you name it, in a van and just drive (and drive, and drive). There were countless road trips from Florida to Canada and everywhere in between. And if he couldn’t get there by car, his passport was at the ready for him to hop a flight with a lightly packed (seriously, essentials only) carry-on bag, to fun, cultural and international destinations, like Las Vegas, Spain, Italy, Kuwait, Syria and Jordan. When he got that travel bug, nothing could stop him.

Hanna is survived by his beloved family, wife of 48 years, Samia, daughters Elizabeth (Nader) Ajlouny, Lenna, Vivian, son Atallah, his beautiful grandchildren, Aidan George and Ava Grace; siblings, Aida (Yousef) Sayej, Emily (Michel) Owais, Elaine (Jihad) Shahoud, Suhail (Norma) Samander, and mother-in-law, Rahil Kaoud; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and grand-dog, Winston. He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Antone and Michael and father in-law, Wadi Kaoud.

He will be loved always, greatly missed, and fondly remembered by many as a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, God father and friend. May he rest in eternal peace.
