Helen "Omi" Vasil
April 26, 1933 ~ February 21, 2018 (age 84) 84 Years OldShare Tribute:
Helen “Omi” Vasil, 84, of Milford, entered into eternal rest on February, 21, 2018. Born on April 26, 1933 in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Hermann and Rosalie Grassmann.
Helen immigrated to the Unites States as a teenager with her parents to seek a better life. She met and married the love of her life, Peter Vasil, Jr., who was taken from his family at the age of 44. One of Helen’s proudest moments was becoming a U.S. citizen, which meant so much to her. She was a bank teller for many years. Her love of her family and friends was shared through her outstanding cooking; one could not visit Helen’s home without eating something, no matter if you were hungry or not. When Helen wasn’t cooking she could be found participating in many activities through the Orange Senior Center, going out with her friends, and volunteering at Milford Hospital. She was a mean pinochle player and loved Bocce, and Wii bowling. Helen traveled the world and loved gardening, sewing, theater, and dancing. One of her happiest memories was having the opportunity to travel to Germany with her children, and returning to her hometown of Berlin, and even to the playground where she played as a child.
Helen is survived by her son Michael (Gail) Vasil; her daughter Rosemarie (Richard) Fish; three grandchildren, Karissa and Peter Vasil and Jacqueline Fish; and two great grandchildren, Harper and Delaney.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange. Interment to follow at Beaverdale Cemetery, Hamden.
