Irene Helen (Fogler) Groves

Irene H. Groves, 92, of Milford, beloved wife of 70 years to Edward Groves, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2022. Born on March 9, 1930 in Milford, CT she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Bertha C. (Wojcicki) Fogler.  

Irene graduated from Milford High School with the Class of 1948 and married her loving husband in 1952. In the 70’s, she was a very active member of the Milford Harbor Chapter of Save the Wetlands and from 1974 to 1976, Irene was Girl Scout Leader for a troop of handicap girls. She sold clothes for Dutchmaid and worked as a trained secretary and accountant for Milford Manufacturing and Diversified Hospitality. Irene was known for her apple pie and was a great cook. She enjoyed reading, hiking, and walks on the beach.

In addition to her husband, Edward, Irene is survived by her children, Carol (James) Bertilson, Judith (Ian) Percival, Elise Groves, and Ellen (John) Paiva; her grandchildren, Alexander and Eleanor; step-grandchildren, Alex (Emily) Paiva and Jessica Paiva; her sister, Catherine (Gerald) Groff; and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by eight siblings.

A Graveside Service will be celebrated on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Saint Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or a charity of choice. The family is being cared for by the staff of Cody-White Funeral Home 107 Broad St., Milford, CT.
