Tribute

Isabelle Marie Gorek Mannix, devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend passed away peacefully at 66 years of age on January 14th, 2022. Born on March 19th, 1955, in Paris, France. Despite a heroic battle with cancer, she was a beacon of elegance, grace and fortitude.

Isabelle earned her Baccalaureate degree at the Lycée Francais de New York and her Bachelor of Science at Pace University. She then earned her nursing degree and was a labor and delivery nurse at New York Cornell Hospital for over 10 years. She continued to work at Danbury Hospital for a number of years while raising her children in Wilton, CT.

Isabelle was selflessly devoted to helping others through her kindness. She had a wonderful sense of humor and shared her life experiences and wisdom through storytelling. Isabelle had a unique combination of talents and interests. She had a true “Joie de Vivre” throughout her life, gathering culture through her love of books, frequent trips to museums and open conversations with people from all walks of life. She was an artist, music buff, avid gardener, and world traveler. She was a loved and valued member of the Milford and Wilton, CT Communities. She enjoyed all activities by the water, including swimming, kayaking, and the overall beauty of sunsets and coastal living. Her creativity was most evident in her gardening and painting. Isabelle kept a warm and inviting home. She enjoyed cooking and was considered a chef by all who enjoyed her delicious meals. Especially fond memories were made over cozy dinners with friends and family.

She loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She is survived by her son Matthew John Edmond Mannix, and daughter Olivia Marguerite Helen Mannix (Jared Hujing), ex-husband John F. Mannix, Jr., her mother Marguerite Gorek; sister Sophie Wynne (Thomas) , nieces and nephews Chloe Wynne Reed (George) and Wesley Wynne. She was predeceased by her father the late Dr. Edmond Gorek.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Uganda Farmers Inc. https://www.ugandafarmersinc.org/

Isabelle, RN, was a long-time supporter of Uganda Farmers Inc., a local nonprofit whose mission is to aid the rural poor in East Africa. She supported  Lillian, a young poor girl from a rural village by paying her tuition through school.  As a result, Lillian has graduated from nursing school, is now a certified health professional, and is devoting her life toward assisting others.  None of this would have been possible without Isabelle’s love and concern. By donating to Uganda Farmers Inc. you can help to educate children in Africa lifting them out of the cycle of poverty.
