James Joseph Pino, Sr.

Tribute

James Joseph Pino, Sr., of Milford, CT, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Connie, who was blessed to love him for 53 years. His devoted children, Patricia Pino, James J. Pino, Jr., Daniel Pino (Kristin), and wonderful granddaughter, Lucia Rae Pino, will miss his frequent phone calls filled with love, quick wit, sage advice, and singing. He greatly loved his brother, Eugene Pino, in-laws Mary Grace Pino, Katheryn (Burton) Hammond and Evelyn Parise, goddaughter Laura Christine Pino, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Justin and Gladys (Pelrin) Pino, in-law’s Constantino and Lucy (Sette) Neri, and brother-in-law, Joe Parise.

After attending St. Laurence School in Meriden, Jim graduated from Meriden High School. He earned his B.S. cum laude in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and his MBA from the University of Bridgeport. Commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam-Era, he served in Germany and Korea.

Jim was a retired Professional Engineer, founder and Vice President of Olympus Corporation, and an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. He served as president of the University of Notre Dame Alumni Association of New Haven and was a dedicated fan of the Fighting Irish. He was on the board of the Bricklayers Union, was an Orange Park and Recreation Commissioner, coached Little League, Babe Ruth Baseball and Basketball, and was an Orange Rotarian. He volunteered with the Disabled American Veterans and delivered food for FISH of Greater New Haven.

Jim’s Memorial Mass will be held this Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 9:45am at St. Gabriel Church (St. Raphael Parish), 26 Broadway, Milford, CT. All friends and family (whether attending the Mass or not) are welcome to celebrate Jim’s life between 11:00am and 3:00pm at the Costa Azzurra Restaurant, 72 Broadway, Milford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s honor may be made to the Community Soup Kitchen www.csknewhaven.org.
