Tribute

Jeanette E. Saggio, 101, of Milford, died on July 22, 2020, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 28, 1919 to Joseph and Maria (Placa) Gangi of West Haven where she was raised and graduated from West Haven High School in 1936.

She married the late Leo L. Saggio (1918-1991) on November 4, 1943 and resided in Milford for the last 65 years. She is survived by her children, Lenore (Robert) DiGioia, William (Paulette) Saggio and Jean (Gregory) Getman; her grandchildren, Robert Jr., Jennifer and Laura DiGioia, Gregory (Claire) Getman, William (Nicole) Saggio, Jodi (James) Lynas, Gina Bell and Nicholas Saggio; and her great grandchildren Lyllianah Getman and Michael Wise. She was predeceased by her six brothers, James, Francis, George, Albert, John and William; her four sisters, Josephine, Mae, Teresa and Marion; and her grandson, Christopher Getman. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jeanette was employed by the Milford Board of Education for 30 years. She was an avid reader and history buff, loved crossword puzzles and music from the 30s-40s, gardening, singing, playing piano, bird watching, travelling and cooking meals and delicious baked goods for her family. Mayor Ben Blake proclaimed January 28, 1919 Jeanette Saggio Day in honor of her 100th birthday. Her wit and wisdom, much like the lady herself, will remain unforgettable.
