Joan Alice Calandriello

Joan Alice Calandriello, 88, of Milford, beloved wife of Charles Joseph Calandriello, passed away at home in the presence of her loving family on Thursday, July 9th, 2020 after an extended period of poor health. She was born on January 7th, 1932 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late James Alexander Cloughley and Teresa Evelyn Cloughley (née Kolb).

Joan met the love of her life and husband of nearly 60 years, Charles, while working together at Pathé Color of Bayonne, NJ, the American division of the world renowned French motion picture production company of the early and mid 20th century.

She and Charles married in Stamford, CT in November 1960, moved to Milford on Halloween Eve of 1962, and resided in the same home continuously ever since that time. Joan absolutely loved Milford and treasured its beautiful town green and its spectacular scenic shoreline.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family meant everything to Joan. She dedicated her life to maintaining a safe, happy and welcoming home while bringing up her three children and nurturing her many grandchildren in her later years.

Joan was a lover of cats and had many feline companions over the years. She was an avid reader and was particularly enthusiastic about Norse mythology and the works of Charles Dickens and Mark Twain. Always a fan of fresh air and sunshine, Joan especially enjoyed strolling on the boardwalk at Walnut Beach and Silver Sands State Park with her children and grandchildren.

Joan was a good-natured woman with a unique sense of humor. Despite her poor health, she continually expressed feelings of gratitude towards her family and to all of those around her. Her thankfulness and appreciation for those in her life, and for help with her care during her final days, was truly extraordinary and set an example for those around her.

Joan is survived by her husband Charles and her children: her son James Calandriello and his wife Christine, her two daughters: Jane Calandriello and Jeanne Jalbert and her husband Kevin, eleven grandchildren: Kevin Jalbert Junior, Jeannie Jalbert, Kurtis Jalbert and his wife Kristina, Kyle Jalbert, Keaton Jalbert, Kody Jalbert, Kasey Jalbert, Kory Jalbert, Kaden Jalbert, Kolby Jalbert, and Charles “Chaz” Calandriello, and one great-grandson, Tiberius Jalbert. She is also survived by her brother Walter “Butch” Cloughley, her nephew Larry Salvatore, her niece Susie Flaherty, and their families. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, James and Teresa Cloughley, her brothers James, William and Leonard, and her sisters Evelyn and Lorraine.

A family celebration of Joan’s life will take place at her home on Sunday July 12th 2020 at 1:00 PM.
