John "Jack" Harold Codeanne, III

December 6, 1935 ~ April 22, 2021 (age 85) 85 Years Old

John H. “Jack” Codeanne, III, resident of Milford for 57 years and loving husband for over 60 years to Marilyn Torgerson Codeanne, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital after a brief illness. Jack was born in New Haven, CT on December 6, 1935 to the late John H. Codeanne, Jr. and Josephine Liguori Codeanne.

Jack graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven in 1954, attended Quinnipiac University, and faithfully served his country as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He retired as a manager from the Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET) after over 30 years of service. Upon his mother’s death in 1975, Jack assumed ownership of her business, Josephine Dress Shoppe, a staple in downtown Branford for over 40 years.

He also served his state and community in the following ways: Jack was a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Housing under Governor Thomas Meskill. He was Administrative Assistant to the House Majority Leader, Gerald Stevens, in Hartford, as well as his campaign manager. He was Chairman of the Milford Housing Authority, Chairman of the Milford Republican Party’s Fourth District Committee and Chairman of SNET’s Milford-West Haven Community Relations Team. Jack was also a member of the Board of Directors for Boy’s Village Youth and Family Services, member of the Heritage Council of the Telephone Pioneers of America, member of the Credit Committee for the New Haven Telephone Employees Federal Credit Union, secretary of The Exchange Club of Orange, and member of the Foran High School Sports Building Committee. Jack was a member of the Board of Directors for Southern Connecticut Youth Hockey, as well as coached his children’s sport teams in Milford, including girls basketball and softball, Little League baseball, and YMCA flag football.

In addition to his beloved wife, Marilyn, he is survived by his adoring children, Carol Codeanne Teixeira (Michael) of North Haven, Sharon Codeanne of Cheshire, Nancy Codeanne Degnan of Milford, and John H. Codeanne IV (Eileen) of South Carolina. His loving grandchildren, Nicholas Kupec and Lauren Kupec Lilien (Robert), Emily, Alissa, and Ethan Candal, Matthew Degnan, and Lani and Colin Codeanne. Also survived by his stepgranddaughter, Alexis Teixeira; along with his former son-in-law, Carlos Candal; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Jack was predeceased by his brother, William F. Codeanne, and his son-in-law, Edward J. Degnan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Agnes Church (Precious Blood Parish), 400 Merwin Ave., Milford, CT (MEET DIRECTY AT CHURCH). Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org
