Joyce C. Beggs

Joyce C. Beggs, 88, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Gerald Beggs, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022 at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. Born on February 24, 1934 in Milford, she was the daughter of the late Steven and Antonia Stankawich. 

A graduate of Milford High School class of 1952, Joyce was a member of many student groups such as Girls Chorus, Junior Ways and Means Committee, Senior Prom Committee, Senior Drama Club, and Pep Club to name a few. She was also a member of the “Bee Bops” West Shore Milford Basketball League from 1949-50.

One of Joyce’s favorite pastimes was gardening. She loved planting many different varieties of perennials every year and was so proud of her multi-colored rose bushes that lined the driveway at 207 Walnut Street. She was also known for her delicious shrimp and macaroni salad that graced the picnic table at numerous family picnics back in the 60s and 70s. 

Joyce also loved to collect antiques. One of her prized possessions was her glass shoe collection. 

Joyce went on to retire from The Equitable Life Assurance Company of Milford as a claims processor back in 1984 where she also was an avid bowler for the Company’s bowling league. 

As years went on when Joyce became a grandmother, her most favorite time was caring for her one and only granddaughter, Rachael. They spent hours together reading books, playing with Barbie dolls, and watching Grandma’s favorite soaps! Rachael could do no wrong in “Gamma’s” eyes. 

Joyce leaves behind her daughter, Carrie Philbrick; granddaughter, Rachael Philbrick; and sister, Joan Barre. She was predeceased by her two daughters, Cheryl Lynn and Luanne. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. that day at Christ the Redeemer Church, 325 Oronoque Road, Milford. Burial will follow at Kings Highway Cemetery, 271 Cherry St., Milford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
