Kathleen P. Gerwien

October 22, 1942 ~ September 23, 2022 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Tribute

Kathleen “Kathy” P. Gerwien, 79, of Milford, beloved wife of Walter Gerwien, passed away on September 23, 2022. Born on October 22, 1942 in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Patrick and Louise Mildred Lynch.  Kathleen grew up in Stratford and moved to Milford in 1965, after getting married. She and Walter recently celebrated 57 wonderful years together.

Kathleen graduated from Southern Ct State University in 1964 receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  While starting her family, she continued her education receiving her Masters Degree in 1974.  Kathy taught math for a few years, leaving to devote her time to raising her family.  Later on, Kathy worked at Peoples Bank in Bridgeport for 23 years, retiring in 2005.  Her favorite “job” however was spending the better part of the last 50 years, sitting at the end of her driveway, as the bike and big wheel monitor, making sure her children and grandchildren stayed out of the road.

She loved spending time with her friends and family, and she never passed up an opportunity to babysit her grandchildren.  One of her favorite days was St. Patrick’s Day; where all were required to wear green, and you had better come prepared with toast.

Some of her favorite activities were attending UCONN Womens basketball games, baking her famous chocolate chip cookies, and attending the sporting events of her children and grandchildren.

Kathy had a love of travel and she and Walt were blessed with the opportunity to take numerous trips over the years to many European countries, tropical islands, cruises, cross country bus trips, and Florida.

Along with her husband, Kathy is survived by her children, Michael (Deborah) Gerwien, Eileen (Doug) Bates, Mary Beth (Gene) Mingrone, and Tom (Jen) Gerwien; grandchildren, Justin (Shannon) Gerwien, Nicholas Gerwien, Alex Mingrone, Steven Mingrone, Emilie Gerwien, Jack Gerwien, and Finnegan Gerwien; great-grandchildren, Ellory and Colby Gerwien; sister, Lillian Lynch; and many treasured friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Lynch.
