Margaret J. “Peg” Donahue, 96, of Milford, passed away on March 17, 2021. Born on July 6, 1924 in Bridgeport, CT she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Hilda (Ruoss) Johnston.
A member of the Bassick High School class of 1942, Peg became a Milford resident in 1948. She was a dedicated Registered Nurse for over 40 years, serving in the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII and later working at Bridgeport Hospital. She eventually joined Pond Point Healthcare, where she spent 30 years, going on to retire as evening supervisor. A past President of Foxwood Condominiums Homeowners Association, she was active well into her later years; known and admired for her sharp mind and quick wit. A versatile conversationalist happy to chat about anything from world affairs to her favorite sitcoms, Peg enjoyed times at the Senior Center, rooting for UCONN basketball and setting up her Christmas Village. She also loved baking and was a skilled seamstress and knitter, frequently making doll clothes and scrunchies for her beloved grandchildren, who, along with anyone else lucky enough to have known her, learned a great deal from her and will miss her dearly.
Margaret is survived by her children, Linda (David) Gaffney, Sheila Butler, and Kathy Donahue; her grandchildren, Megan (Theresa Hessey) Gaffney, Colleen (Robert Hermann) Gaffney, Timothy (Angela) Butler, and Laura (Matthew) Allen; her great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Noah, Jeremy, Eleanor, and Jacob; her step-great-grandchildren, Riley and Lucas; several nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, John P. Donahue; her siblings, Barbara (Arthur) Christensen and Robert (Sherry) Johnston; and her sons-in-law, Robert Butler and Edmund Donahue.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Due to gathering restrictions, a limited number of people are allowed inside at a time. Masks and social distancing will be required. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
