Margaret Lyons Filipowich, 86, Orange resident for 50 years, beloved wife of the late Alex Filipowich and mother of the late Karen Lyons Filipowich, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2017. Born on December 3, 1930 in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late David J. and Mary O’Donnell Lyons. 

Margaret was a graduate of Hamden High School, class of 1948 and Larsen College (now Quinnipiac University), class of 1950. She also studied at Albertus Magnus College. At different stages in her life, she was employed by Yale University, including the Yale School of Public Health and the Yale School of Management. Margaret was also a Realtor in the greater New Haven area. She was a parishioner of Holy Infant Church in Orange and a Past President of the Catholic Charity League of New Haven. Margaret enjoyed many summer and winter activities at the Klondike Camp in Otis, MA and the Owenego Beach and Tennis Club in Branford, CT, as well as pleasant evenings with her husband and friends at The Graduate Club in New Haven.

In addition to her husband and daughter, Margaret was predeceased by her sisters and their husbands, Marilyn (Francis) Shields, and Justine (Walter) Stanford; brothers-in-law and their wives, Paul (Gloria) Filipowich, and Nicholas (Sally) Filipowich; and sister-in-law, Zena Filipowich. Margaret is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11a.m. at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Saint Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave., West Haven, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org.
