Tribute

On July 29, 2022, Margaret Vargo, 98 years young, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, entered into eternal peace and love to join her parents, Andrew and Jennie Vargo; sister, Irene (Leon) Betlinski; brother, Andrew Vargo; niece, Laura Betlinski; and great nephew, Joshua Cirillo.

Marge was born on July 5, 1924 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was quite accomplished in her years. She was never afraid of a challenge. She continued her schooling to receive her degree in accounting from the University of Bridgeport and handled many large accounts for Freidberg, Smith and Company. She was also Comptroller at Management Service for many years. Marge ran a tight ship with business and home life. She continued to keep her local Catholic church, Our Lady of Good Counsel afloat and was head of the Ways and Means Committee. She was very involved at the church with all of the activities, fund raising, and ceremonies. She made wonderful friends there, who have always been very supportive. Marge was president of the Quota Club and held other positions that included President of the YMCA for seniors and received Saint Augustine’s award. She loved watching the Hallmark channel, the Yankees, and other sports on TV. She was on many bowling teams throughout the years. Marge held her Hungarian heritage close to her heart.

She loved to travel and her sister, Jean Vargo, was always her biggest supporter. They traveled the world together and always remembered all of the nieces and nephews with trinkets from their travels. Her memory was that of a 20 year old. She was a great historian and equally as sharp with all current events.

Family meant everything to her. She would often tell people, “I didn’t have my own children but I consider all of my nieces and nephews my own.”

Marge is survived by her sister, Jean; sister-in-law, Joan Vargo;nieces and nephews, Michael (Lisa) Betlinski, Jean Eberts, Peggy (Tony) Cirillo, Richard (Jean) Vargo, Jeffrey (Grace) Vargo, Janice (Bruce) Varga, Andrew (Paulette) Vargo, Jennifer (Mark) DiLauro; and many great and great great nieces and nephews.

Marge will always be affectionately remembered as “THE BOSS” by her family and friends.
