July 27, 1930 ~ September 18, 2022 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Mary Christine Juranty Bodnar, age 92, passed away peacefully on September 18 at Yale New Haven Hospital.

She was the devoted and much-loved mother of Julie Roberge , Christopher Bodnar (Kathleen Conroy Cass), and Patricia Bodnar.  She was a very special light in the lives of her adored grandchildren, Elizabeth Roberge Camp (Allen) and Andrew Roberge.

Mary was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Len, her parents, all of her siblings (Stani, Ray, Sophie, Wally, Frankie, Joanna, and Joseph), her son-in-law, Richard Roberge, and her daughter-in-law, Christine Bodnar.

Mary was born to Anna Ziomek Juranty and Mike Juranty on July 27, 1930, in Taunton, MA, where she spent her childhood, graduated from Taunton High School, and eventually met her husband-to-be at their employer, Western Auto.  After their marriage, they made their home in Milford, CT, but it must be said that, “You can take the girl out of Taunton, but you can’t take Taunton out of the girl.”  Our mom never stopped dropping those r’s.

Although she worked in the Payments/Receipts department of the Knights of Columbus in New Haven for many years, Mary was happiest at home with family, especially at birthday and holiday celebrations.  Tropical chicken wings and cupcakes were her specialties and, try as we might, we just can’t quite do them as well as she did.

Mary resided happily at The Willows in Woodbridge for the past year, and we are thankful to her caregivers, particularly Joan and Vilma, for really getting to know and love her.  To Dr. Sloane Heller and her team at Yale Neurology, we will never be able to thank you enough for your expert and compassionate care of our mom.  You got to know her as a person, not just a patient, and were laser-focused on ensuring that she was as comfortable as she could be, while patiently and kindly answering our many questions and concerns.  Thank you so very much.  Also, to Joe and Amy of Vitas, our gratitude for explaining everything hospice, and for being the smiling, kind, loving support our mom so enjoyed.  We thank you all.

The biggest “Thank you” goes to you, Mom/Gram, for everything you were to us, we love you, always and forever.

In Mary’s memory, be kind to all children, everywhere, in any way you can.  She would love that.
