Mary Jane Murray

October 13, 1938 ~ November 5, 2023 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Mary Jane Murray, 85, longtime resident of Milford, beloved wife of the late William J. Murray Sr, passed away on November 5, 2023. Born on October 13, 1938 in Atlasburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mary Magdalen and Bartley F. McManus, Sr.

Mary Jane spent her childhood in Footedale, PA as a proud coal miner’s daughter. She and her husband Bill married in 1958 and moved to CT a year later. They ultimately put down roots in Milford where their family continued to grow. Mary Jane was known as Mom to so many more than her own children. She was an amazing, caring and giving woman. She was a wonderful cook, baker and gardener. She was especially known for her homemade sauce and meatballs served every Sunday, where anyone was welcome to join. She made the most delicious homemade pies and loved to add flower beds in her yard wherever there was room. Mary Jane was very involved with her childrens’ activities in scouting, little league and PTA.

Her legacy is her family, which was the most important part of her life. She was a devout catholic and a Eucharistic Minister for years at Christ the Redeemer Church where many parishioners enjoyed her stylish Sunday outfits. She was much loved by her co-workers for many years at New England Controls where she ran the shop floor before becoming the purchasing agent.  After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. She frequented Milford Senior Center ceramics where she made countless family heirlooms. She was an avid walker, seen daily walking the Milford Green and Joyce Court. She continued walking in her assisted living facility with her big smile and laugh. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Meadow Mills Assisted Living & Memory Care, especially the lovely Emily, Vesta and Phyliss, who cared for and loved her like family for the last 3 years.

Mary Jane is survived by her children, Karen (Donald) Nemeth, William (Dawn) Murray Jr., Michael Murray, Colleen (Wayne) Zacarelli, and Kathleen (Craig) Kilian; daughters-in-law, Lauren Murray and Beth Murray. She was predeceased by her son Dennis Murray.

She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren; Donald (Mandy) Nemeth Jr., Shannon (Eddie) Clarke, Sean (Jessica) Nemeth, Katelynn (Ryan) Clark, William (Erin) Murray, Hayley (Ashley) and Michael Murray, Dennis (Natalie) Murray, Lauren (Mathew) Wlodarski, Courtney Murray, Amber (James) Hickey, Alyssa (Robert) Callahan, Stephen Cretella, Patrick, Matthew (Carina) and Jenna Zacarelli, Sarah and Emily Kilian; great grandchildren, Adeline, Andrãs, Madison, Beau, Ellie, Austin, Wake, Cora, William, Gabriel, Payton, Violet, Jack, Greyson, Brogan, Anneliese, Emma, Charlie, James, and Frankie; and many extended family and friends.
