Nora White Sabia

Nora White Sabia, 68, of Shelton, beloved wife of Donald Sabia for 47 years, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2022 with her family by her side. Born on December 12, 1953 in Stamford, CT, she was the daughter of the late William and Concetta (Cammarota) White.

For Nora, education was her passion. She worked proudly in Norwalk Public Schools for 27 years teaching special education and social studies. She received education degrees from Sacred Heart University (bachelors), Southern Connecticut University (masters), and a doctorate of education from University of Bridgeport. She would often talk fondly of the students who touched her life, as these were experiences and years she cherished.

A study experience in Paris and the Soviet Union in 1970 sparked a love for travel that lasted a lifetime, taking Nora to Italy, Ireland, the Caribbean, and most recently, Bonita Springs, FL, where she relished the beach and the sun.

Nora enjoyed reading, 60s music, and beating everyone handily at Uno. She looked forward to cooking her favorite traditional Italian recipes, watching Broadway musicals every year with her son, getting her nails done and decorating the house and trees for Christmas. At night, you would most certainly find Nora watching a Turner Classic Movie under a heated blanket, while crushing a challenging crossword puzzle.

Nora shined her brightest as a devoted wife and mother, taking such great pride in raising two boys. It was her life’s joy, and she balanced it all with her time in the classroom. She will be remembered for her laugh, conversations, warm hospitality, and excitement for a cold Cosmopolitan. Above all, her two grandchildren filled her heart with happiness. From arts and crafts projects and meatball making lessons, to gifting them an endless supply of presents – it was what she lived for.  

Nora is survived by her sons, Michael and his wife Meredith, and Joe; her grandchildren, Finn and Mallory; her brother-in-law, William Sabia and his wife, Patricia; her nieces and nephews; her aunt, Carmela Cammarota; and her brother, William White Jr.

Friends and family may call from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton, CT 06484. Interment will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery 219 New Haven Ave., Derby, CT 06418. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities USA.
