Patricia M. Lucia

January 6, 1946 ~ March 19, 2023 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Tribute

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Mary Lucia age 77 of Milford, CT on March 19, 2023 at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by her loving family.  Pat was born in New Haven, CT to the late Thomas and Mary (Heaphy) Cronan.

Pat’s true calling in life was to be a registered nurse which she wore her badge with honor and dignity. Over her fifty plus years of nursing, she wore many different hats. She first started as an Emergency Room nurse at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT which she later became their nurse manager for twenty years and met her beloved husband there. She then went on and became the manager at Temple Recovery in New Haven, CT until its closure. During that role, she was nominated by her employees and won the prestigious Nightingale award. Her next chapter in nursing took her to Yale New Haven Hospital as the first urology nurse educator. As the clinical practice continued to grow, she returned to management as the role of APSM until she retired three years ago. In typical Pat fashion, she could not stay retired and went back to working with the Urology department. During her years of devoted nursing, she not only gave her patients and employees respect but she made lifelong friends along the way. She infallibly had an open-door policy to her employees and was always there to lend an ear or give advice to as she was known to many as “Mama Pat”, much more than their boss.

As nursing played a huge role in Pat’s life nothing was as vast as her mother and “Grammy” role. Pat was the definition of selfless. All you needed to do was pick up the phone and she was there for you no matter what and no questions asked. Be it picking up a grandchild to and from school, bringing them to their numerous activities, running to the store at any hour of the day, Sunday rituals to mass, making her phenomenal chicken cutlets and her many delicious dishes that will be sorely missed. She always said that her family was her life, but she was OUR life. She has left us with an immense void, but also beautiful memories that we will cherish forever.

Pat will be severely missed by her son WalterJohn whom they shared a very special bond and his wife Renee who was like a daughter to her. Their three children who were the reason for her being Frankie, Santino and her namesake Daniela GracePatrice Lucia. She was not only their Grammy, but their friend as well. You could always have seen Pat cheering them on at the sidelines of swim meets, hockey games, basketball games and at the dojo. She didn’t miss any milestones in their lives, and she will continue to watch over them.  She also leaves behind her caring stepdaughters Rita (Dave) Supernaw, Elisa (Jim) O’Connor, and Laura (Chris) Church.  Her beloved grandchildren Matthew Carralero, Ricky and Nella Church. Pat is survived by her close sister Maureen Redman and many nieces and nephews in addition to her great nephew David whom he will miss their frequent phone calls. She is predeceased by her brothers Thomas, William, and Robert Cronan. As well as her late husband and soulmate Walter Lucia, MD. We know that they are dancing up in heaven and enjoying a long-awaited glass of wine together.
