MSGT. Richard C. Finn, 65, of Milford, Connecticut, beloved husband of Connie (Toledo) Finn, passed away on November 20, 2023. Born on January 24, 1958, in Schenectady, New York, he was the son of the late Charles Finn and Marjorie (Roberts) Finn.
Richard served in the United Stated Marine Corps for 21 years. His job as a Marine was Helicopter Mechanic and CH53E Helicopter Crew Chief. He served in Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He was also a drill instructor and retired as a Master Sergeant and Helicopter Maintenance Chief.
After retiring from the United States Marine Corps, he had a long, successful career at Sikorsky Aircraft and NAVAIR, primarily as an Aviation Logistics Engineer. He retired from NAVAIR in February of 2023 to spend more time with his beloved wife, and his grandchildren, whom he loved more than life itself.
Everyone who knew Rick would say that he is one of a kind. The type of person to give you the shirt off of his back, he was always helping others – whether it was donating to various charities, picking his grandkids up from school, giving a stranger a ride to work, or just being there to listen. He loved to go bowling with his wife, watch old war documentaries, teach his grandchildren about world history, spit off random sports facts that nobody asked for, and most of all – he loved to be around his family.
Rick didn’t have children of his own, but when he married his wife Connie, he quickly became a step-dad. Becoming a step-dad to a 9-year-old and a 17-year-old is not an easy job. But to know Rick is to love him, and that is exactly how his children felt. He dedicated his entire life to his family. When his first grandbaby, Sadie, was born – he was forever changed. If you ask anyone to tell you something about Rick, the first thing they would say was that he loved his grandbabies more than anything. He was always showing everyone pictures of them and talking about them any chance he got. He was there for every sporting event, every graduation, every dance recital and every little or big milestone. He was always there, and he will be deeply missed.
Richard is predeceased by his father, Charles Finn, his brother Derek and his sister Diane. In addition to his beloved wife, Connie, Richard is survived by his adored children, Alisha LaDore (and her husband Tom) and Matthew Schlenk (and his companion Emily Weller). Richard also leaves behind his most precious grandchildren, Sadie, Parker, Hudson and Blake (and his granddog Rocky), his mother, Marjorie, his sisters, Laura and Pam and several nieces and nephews. Gone, but never ever forgotten. We will make it our mission every day to talk about him, share memories, and keep his spirit alive.
