Robert Francis Braychak, 74, of Milford, beloved husband of 52 years to Marilyn Braychak, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2018. Robert was born on March 16, 1944 in Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT to the late George and Jean Braychak. He grew up in Monroe, CT with his sister, Sandra Braychak-Metcalfe of Seminole, FL. He graduated from Notre Dame H.S. in Bridgeport.

Following high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Army on August 31, 1962 and served on the Demilitarized Zone in Korea as a Combat Engineer & Demolitions Expert for 13 months. He was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army in July 31, 1968 having achieved the rank of Sargent (P) E-5 and earning the distinction of “Sharpshooter”.

Before leaving for Korea, Bob met the “love of his life”, Marilyn, of Milford, CT. While away in Korea those 13 months, Bob & Marilyn fostered a “true love”. When he returned, they worked at Avco in Stratford together and were married on May 7, 1966. They brought into the world two sons, Louis (predeceased on March 6, 1984) and William, of Middletown, CT, as well as bringing into their home numerous dogs.

Bob was hired to the State Police on October 23, 1967 and retired as a Connecticut State Trooper, Badge #525, on July 1, 1991. He earned the rank of Detective, as well as Trooper 1st Class; always maintaining the distinction of “Pistol Master”. While working as a Trooper, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from the University of New Haven in 1976.

Bob was a life-long bass and trout fisherman, fishing the fresh waters of Bantam Lake and its tributaries, Mamanasco Lake & Lake Lillinonah and the Moodus Resevoir with his fishing buddies and his son, Bill. Also a fishing rod builder the entirety of his life, Bob was the founder and sole owner of Bray Custom Rods, based inside and periodically outside his home in Milford. He also was a fan of the Yankees and the Giants and thoroughly enjoyed watching the games.

Bob is survived not only by his wife, son and sister, but by his daughter-in-law, Marie, whom he simply adored and was smitten with.
