Robert Edward Scofield, 87, of Milford, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 4, 2018. Robert was born February 16,1931, in Milford, CT, to his parents Edward and Irene VanOrmer Scofield. He’s survived by his children Jamie and Tim Scofield his brother Ralph Scofield and many nieces and nephews and predeceased by his wife Susanne Lucas Scofield, his brothers Richard, Roger, and Russell and a sister Mary Lou. Known to his family as “Buddy” he was a hardworking man who made many sacrifices for his family. From a young age, he took on many responsibilities including working at Bamby Bread starting in his teens.
Robert enlisted in the Army and went to Cook and Baker school. He was on the frontline of the Army’s integration program in 1949. He served in Korea earning five bronze campaign stars and attained the rank of Corporal, earning several service medals and a Combat Infantry Badge in the process. After being discharged, he went to college in Oklahoma to continue his baking education.
He went on to work in several bakeries including Ziesler’s in Bridgeport. He was a baker for nearly 30 years. He later worked at Sikorsky Aircraft where he was a Packer/Rigger at the Meyers building for 17 years.
Robert was a man with a big smile and a huge laugh. He was a devoted father. He was always quick to offer whatever hospitality he could usually encouraging you to sit down. He will be missed by those who’s lives he touched.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery Buckingham Ave Milford, CT. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT.
