Roger F. Hinckley Jr., 80, of Milford Connecticut, beloved husband of Katharine (Roorbach) Hinckley, passed away on February 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and beloved music. Born on January 1, 1944, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Roger Sr. and Caroline (Legat) Hinckley.
Roger grew up in Trumbull, Connecticut where he graduated from Central High School and then attended The Connecticut School of Electronics where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. After taking his SATs he was drafted into the army where he served his country teaching others how to build, repair, and quickly disassemble helicopters. His capacity for kindness and massive intelligence caught the eye of other branches of the military and when he was approached to extend his service he politely declined to return home and continue his education.
Upon returning home he was forced to retake his SATs,which to this day remains the biggest inconvenience of his entire life. He studied marketing at The University of Bridgeport where he also worked as a radio dj exposing everyone in his listening pool to the quagmire of knowledge and deep appreciation for all sorts of music he had. After college he worked for Sikorsky Aircraft and finished his professional career as the marketing manager at ITT Flygt.
Roger, or Rod as his friends and loved ones knew him as, loved old cars, old movies, old music, and new ideas. He loved analog over digital and cash over credit. He enjoyed feeding and housing the neigborhood birds and regailing his daughters of their hyjinx, especially if a squirrel was involved. Roger was also an avid genealogist. He spent hours every day tracing back thin family ties to discover new relatives. His desire to learn new things was the nucleus of his personality. He always encouraged everyone around him to think outside of the box.
In addition, to his loving wife, Roger is survived by his children Carrie (Paul) Jakubowski and Wendy (Bill) Giel. Roger will be dearly missed by adored granddaughters Mia and Phoebe. He is also survived by sister Pat Smith along with several nieces and nephews. Roger is predeceased by his brother John Hinckley.
