Roy W. (Pug) Lund, 94, of Milford, CT, left us peacefully on February 21, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 28, 1923 in Milford to the late Roy W. Lund, Sr. and Florence Hummel Lund.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II where he served in the South Pacific during the invasion of the Philippines and Anguar in the Solomon Islands. He attended the V-12 Program at Trinity College from 1943-1944 and was commissioned Ensign in 1944, served as Commanding Officer of L.S.T. 226, and retired as Lieutenant (jg) in 1946. Roy was employed by the Board of Education for the City of Milford for 35 years until retiring in 1983. He taught Physical Education and served as Head Basketball Coach for ten years, Assistant Football Coach for five years, Head Baseball Coach for five years, Athletic Director for ten years, and Milford Supervisor of Adult Education for fourteen years. He was the Assistant Principal from 1958-1969 and the Principal from 1969-1983 of the former Milford High School. Roy graduated from Milford High School in 1941. He was Salutatorian and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Arnold Collage in 1947, his Masters Degree from New York University in 1948, and his 6th Year Degree from the University of Bridgeport in 1964. An avid golfer, Roy was active in athletics. He was a member of the Basketball and Baseball Teams at Milford High School, lettered in Basketball at Arnold College and Trinity College, played Semi-Pro Baseball in Milford and Pro-Basketball in Wallingford for the Eastern League. Roy was an Associate Professor at Southern Connecticut State University for five years where he was the Supervisor of Student Candidates for Teaching Degrees. He was a lifetime member of the Connecticut Teachers Association, a Master Mason of Ansantawae Lodge No. 89, A.F. & A.M., Milford, a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, and a Charter Member of the Devon Post 7788 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Milford, where he was Co-Chairman of the Building Committee. Roy was a member of the Grassy Hill Country Club, the Mill River Country Club, and the Wepawaug Country Club. He was President of the Mill River Country Club in 1975.

Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather with a warm smile and a kind and gentle soul. He was a caregiver to his beloved wife for many years.

Roy is survived by his loving daughters, Lee Lund Rogers of Milford and Denise L. Lund Kirkpatrick and husband Bill of Milford; a brother, Richard D. Lund of Fort Lauderdale, FL; three grandchildren, Ambere Rogers and husband Steve Henshaw of Norwalk, Derrick Kirkpatrick and wife Megan of Milford, and Ian Kirkpatrick and wife Amanda of Milford; and great grandchild, Josephine. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura N. (Butcher) Lund and brother, Harold (Ace) Lund. Roy’s family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Konstantin for his compassionate care of our father.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Church of Christ Congregational, 34 West Main Street, Milford. Interment to follow at King’s Highway Cemetery, Milford. Friends and family may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a Masonic Service to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Cody-White Funeral Home 107 Broad Street Milford, CT 06460.
