Sophie M. Homa

Sophie M. Homa, 96, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Albert John Homa, passed away on September 23, 2021. Sophie was born on March 11, 1925 in Carbondale, PA to the late Stanley and Catherine Gorel. Sophie’s mother passed away when she was three years old. Her father remarried Catherine McCabe, who raised and loved Sophie as her own.

Sophie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a fast paced walker with her six young children trailing behind, hurrying to keep up to their many final destinations. Sophie was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary Church in Milford and in her later years even watched mass on television. She enjoyed taking trips to visit lighthouses, jigsaw puzzles, balloon rides, knitting and crocheting. Sophie loved to bake and was known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies. She retired from Bic Pen after over 20 years of employment.

Sophie is survived by her children, Ruthann Perrotta, Debbie Lowy, Dave (Arlene) Homa, Mark (Phyllis) Homa, Daniel (Tammy) Homa and Matthew (Christine) Homa; grandchildren, Melissa (Mauro) Biondi, Mattia (Danielle Buccola) Perrotta, Ryan (Maria) Homa, James (Stephannie) Homa, Jennifer (Karl) Hoffmeister, Allison (Alan) Forgette, Christine (Alex) Stoner, Tim (Stephanie) Homa, Thomas (Brittany) Homa, Helen (Donnie) McCarthy, and Albert Homa; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Florence Bishop, Loretta Barrese, Joseph Gorel and Andrew Gorel; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, John, Frank and Stanley Gorel, Millie Griffin, Catherine Yusko, Mary Connor and Ann Matthei.

Sophie’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Donna Dominick, for the care and compassion she has shown Sophie the last 9 months.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT. Burial will be private.
