William Joseph McDonough

William J. McDonough, 85, of Orange, beloved husband of Joanne (Alpers) McDonough, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2022. Born on December 16, 1936 in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late William J. and Bessie Mary (Reid) McDonough.   

Bill was an active sailor from young on.  His love of sailing took him to start a sailboat sales yard in Norwalk, CT.  Bill sailed out of Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, CT. for many years. He looked forward to Block Island Race Week where he won 1st place in his sailing division.

In addition to his beloved wife, Bill is survived by his children, William J. (Tammy) McDonough and Michael McDonough; his grandchildren, Dakota, Tristan, Keegan, and Saige; his nieces, Emily Shuffstall, and Amy Nurmberg. He was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Schuffstall and Helen Sennett.

A service will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 4:00 at Good Shepard Lutheran Church, 466 Elm Street, Monroe, CT 06468 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice
