Winifred East, longtime Milford resident and beloved wife of 55 years to the late Ellsworth (Ellie) East, mother and nana passed away on July 24, 2017 with her family at her side. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Balmforth.

Winifred was a devoted and loving wife, mother and nana. The light of her life were her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Lauren. Winifred was an active member of St. Mary’s Ladies Guild and charter member of the Legion of Mary. She was an avid reader, fan of the Yankees, UNCONN Women’s basketball, and loved her English TV shows.

Winifred was cherished by her loving and devoted daughter, Karen Corsano and her husband, John; grandchildren, Nicholas Corsano, and Lauren Averna and her husband, Daniel; sister, Rose Wilby of England; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers James Balmforth and George Balmforth. Winifred was the highlight of every party and an amazing woman. She especially loved being with her grandchildren and their friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford, CT 06460. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Avenue, Milford, CT 06460. Friends and family may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460. Memorial contributions may be made in Winifred’s memory to Catholic Family Charities.
