Robert E. Phelan, Jr., age 63, of West Haven, CT passed away on August 10, 2012. He is survived by his beloved wife Ethel Oliveros Phelan. Born in Milford, CT on February 5, 1949, he was the son of Claire Coulombe Phelan and the late Robert Phelan, Sr. Robert graduated from Notre Dame High school and continued his education at Providence College and Indiana University where he received two masters’ degrees. He taught in Taiwan where he taught English, Sociology and Computers, he was also a professor at Manchester Community College, Eastern Connecticut State University, Sacred Heart University, Housatonic Community College, and most recently the University of New Haven. Robert was a researcher and moderator for a global group on climate change called Watts Up with That. He will be remembered for his brilliant mind, intelligence but more than anything being a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend to those who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Diane V. and her partner Rogier, John H. who is currently deployed in Afghanistan, Robert who served in the Army Reserves; his siblings James Phelan, Elizabeth Rivera and her husband Nelson and Kate Phelan, as well as many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 16th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford. Interment to follow at Saint Mary Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, August 15th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460.
