Aldo Martin Pulito, 96, of Orange, CT, a gentleman and a scholar, passed away on January 28, 2017, surrounded by family. Born at home in Cromwell to Amelia Treglia and Martin Pulito, he was the husband of the late Pauline Levesque Pulito. Predeceased by his son, Paul Pulito, he is survived by his daughters, Virginia Miller and her husband Philip Miller of Simpsonville, SC and Marie Pulito and her wife Brenda Caldwell of Bethany, CT. He also leaves his granddaughters, Carolyn Miller Lavoie and Alani Gandossy and great-grandson, Brandon Lavoie. Other surviving family includes Alan Mendrala of CA and Cynthia Hersey of WA. He will be missed by his friend of 82 years, Burton Harwood Jr. of South Norwalk.

Aldo attended schools in Glastonbury and graduated from Hartford Public High School, Trinity College and the University of Connecticut with a PhD in chemistry. He served in the army during WWII assigned to the Manhattan project at Columbia University, Virginia Polytechnic College, Oak Ridge TN and Los Alamos NM.

Aldo owned Ames Laboratory in Milford with colleague Irwin Rosenman. He taught at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing and as an associate professor of chemistry at Fairfield University from 1971 until his retirement in 1986. He was proud to have taught students in the pre-med and nursing programs.

Aldo was an active member of the New England Association of Chemistry Teachers and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He participated for years with the Legion of Mary and as a communicant at Holy Infant Church in Orange.

Aldo was passionate about studying hydrogen fuel cells and dark matter. He worked on the conservation of dunes and beach grass in Biddeford Pool, Maine where he owned a summer cottage. He was an avid reader of science and American history and had a particular interest in Abraham Lincoln and Native American culture.

Aldo and his family would like to thank the following people whose care allowed him to stay in his home until his death: Ann Curran, Trish Goetz, Pam Caldwell and Tom Hardin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT. A private, family burial service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to support Aldo’s passion for coastal ecology may be made to the Biddeford Pool Land Trust, P.O.
